like the title says i am looking for some advice on what i need to be looking for when buying stuff for a new computer.
being a first time builder links where i can find out more would be greatly aprechiated

The rig would need to be able to play CoD 4 and GW obviously.
dont really have a budget in mind, but the cheaper i can get the components for that will do the job, the better

atm i am running GW off my laptop, but thats gotta change lol, bad laggage and everything.

do you have a monitor, and if so what's the native resolution on it? Do you need an Operating System, mouse, keyboard, speakers, or anything else that doesn't go directly inside the Case/Tower itself?

Also, where are you located?

thx for the reply i am located in the UK, and i dont need any of the peripherals such as moniter/keyboard/mouse.

just need the tower and the stuff to go in it

Start off with http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/ and http://overclockers.co.uk/ - the best PC components suppliers in the UK.

Really need a budget as a starting point before we decide on C2D, i5 or i7 or the AMD equivalents.

well, i am trying to build a decent spec Comp as cheap as i can really, got £500 stashed away for this project, but could easily get more for it.

well, AMD will give you the best value --- if gaming is your primary concern there is negligible gain in going with a i5/i7 vs Phenom II, and the price is abit higher with the former.

DDR3 RAM doesn't give any real world benefits over DDR2 unless you have some very highly clocked RAM, which will be quite expensive and frankly isn't worth it.

The video card is one of your biggest expenses and without knowing the resolution that you will be playing games at it's hard to say what you need....

well, i will be playing on a HD 1080p/i computer screen

so looking to get a output for it aswell.

Just about every new video card will have a DVI to HDMI adapter, but some have native HDMI ports as well. I'd say you should aim to get a HD 4890 video card or higher if your budget can afford it (the 4890 is a good value now and will handle anything out right now at that resolution).
